Activities and Pastimes

What there is to do in Leonida besides missions - the activities Rockstar names in its own area copy, the ones reported from the gameplay presentation, and the ones nobody has seen.

Last updated: 2026-08-28

Every Grand Theft Auto is partly a story and partly a place you spend time in, and the second half is what people ask about once the release date is settled. This page collects what is actually established about what you can do in Leonida outside a mission, and keeps it separate from what is merely expected.

There are two bodies of evidence, and they are of different quality. The first is Rockstar's own area copy on the official site, which names activities directly for several regions - that is confirmed material and it is more specific than it is usually given credit for. The second is the Extended Look gameplay presentation of August 27, 2026, from which outlets describe an activity montage; that is reported, because the contents of the video are known through the people who watched it rather than from a Rockstar description.

What neither gives is a system. An activity shown for two seconds in a montage is not a documented mechanic - there is no reward, no control scheme and no progression attached to any of them in public. That gap is the last section of this page, and it is the reason nothing here is written as a how-to.

What Rockstar's own area copy names

Confirmed

When Rockstar published the region breakdown for Leonida alongside the second trailer, several of the write-ups named activities outright. This is the strongest evidence on the page, and it is quotable rather than inferred.

Mount Kalaga is the most explicit of the six. Rockstar's copy describes a national landmark on the state's northern border that "offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails, with hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals living in the lush surrounding backwoods far from the prying eyes of the government." Three activity pillars, named by the studio, in one sentence.

Port Gellhorn closes its write-up with an instruction rather than a description: "Jump on a dirt bike and hold onto your wallet." A decayed resort town whose own copy tells you what to ride through it.

The Leonida Keys frame the water as a space with hazards rather than a backdrop: "you are right on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America." Read next to the archipelago setting, that is Rockstar describing the open water as somewhere you go, not somewhere you look at.

Grassrivers does the same for the wetland: "You never know what lies beneath the surface of this primordial expanse. The gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves." And the airboat, the flat-bottomed fan-propelled swamp boat, appears in both official trailers - a vehicle that exists for one biome and one kind of activity.

Vice City is the exception. Its copy names neighbourhoods rather than activities, which is consistent with an urban region whose content is people and places rather than terrain.

What An Extended Look is reported to show

Reported

Outlets that watched the premiere on August 27, 2026 describe a montage sequence covering activities across the state. The list they report: a scooter, scuba diving, an airboat in the swamp, racing, a strip club, a shooting range, a canoe, a jet ski and basketball.

Read against the section above, most of this is the same set arriving from a second direction. Diving and jet skis belong to the water Rockstar described in the Keys; the airboat belongs to the swamp it was built for; a scooter and a canoe fit the coast and the wetland respectively. The shooting range, racing and basketball are the first sight of the discrete, repeatable pastimes that have anchored the series' side content since the earlier games.

Two cautions on the tier. This is a description of footage rather than a Rockstar statement, and a montage is edited to show variety - the presence of a shot establishes that the thing is in the game, not how much of it there is. Nothing in the reporting says whether basketball is a full mini-game or a single animation, and this page does not guess.

The distance between a montage and a system

This is where most coverage of GTA 6 activities goes wrong, and it is worth naming the gap precisely.

An activity is a system when you know what it costs, what it gives back and how it is controlled. None of that exists in public for any activity in GTA 6. Nobody outside Rockstar knows whether fishing has a rod to buy, whether hunting has pelts to sell, whether racing has an entry fee or a circuit, whether the shooting range scores you, or whether any of it advances anything.

The series' own history shows how wide that gap can be. Hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2 was an economy with condition ratings, tools and a crafting chain hanging off it; hunting in an earlier game was shooting an animal. Both would look identical in a five-second montage shot.

So: hunting, fishing, off-road riding, diving and boating are in the game. That is established. What they are as activities is not, and a page telling you the best fishing spot in Leonida today is describing a game nobody has played.

What is not established at all

Beyond the mechanics of the activities themselves, several whole categories that people expect from a Grand Theft Auto have no public information:

  • Property. Whether you buy homes, garages or businesses, and what they do.
  • The economy. How money is earned outside missions, whether there is an investment layer, what things cost.
  • Customisation. The depth of character and vehicle customisation. Reporting on the Extended Look establishes that the protagonists' bodies change with eating and training, which is a different thing.
  • The wanted system. How police pressure works and how it is shed.
  • The soundtrack, and the radio stations that traditionally carry it.
  • The online mode. Reported by Bloomberg as significant and monetised in-game; not described by Rockstar. See the gameplay page.

These stay empty here rather than being filled with inference from previous games. An expectation drawn from GTA 5 is a fact about GTA 5.

Reading activity claims before launch

Rumor

Pages listing the activities in GTA 6 are common already, usually as a numbered inventory. Three tells separate the sourced from the invented.

A count. Nobody can count the activities in an unreleased game. A page that opens with a total has produced the total from nowhere, and the number is the least defensible thing on it.

Mechanics without a source. A description of how an activity is scored, rewarded or unlocked is describing systems that have never been shown. Where a claim of this kind traces back at all, it usually traces to the 2022 source-code breach - four-year-old work-in-progress material this wiki does not use, and which would not describe the finished game even if it did.

Activities carried over wholesale from GTA 5. Tennis, golf, yoga and darts appear on GTA 6 activity lists with some regularity. They are on those lists because they were in the previous game, not because anyone has seen them in this one.

When the game is out, this page becomes what it should be: a per-activity reference with the region, the mechanic and the reward, checked in play. The game releases on November 19, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can you do in GTA 6 besides missions?+

Rockstar's own area copy names hunting, fishing and off-road trails at Mount Kalaga and dirt bikes at Port Gellhorn, and frames the water around the Leonida Keys as a hazardous space to travel through. Reporting from the Extended Look gameplay presentation additionally describes scuba diving, an airboat, a scooter, a canoe, a jet ski, racing, a shooting range and basketball.

Is there hunting and fishing in GTA 6?+

Yes, per Rockstar's own description of Mount Kalaga, which names prime hunting, fishing and off-road trails. How either works as a mechanic - tools, rewards, progression - has not been described anywhere.

Can you dive and go underwater in GTA 6?+

Reported yes. Outlets that watched the Extended Look describe scuba diving in the activity montage, which fits Rockstar's own framing of the Leonida Keys as sitting on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in America.

Can you buy property or businesses in GTA 6?+

Nothing is established. Rockstar has not described property, businesses or the in-game economy, and no outlet reported them from the gameplay presentation. Anything specific you read about GTA 6 property today is drawn from previous games.

How many activities are in GTA 6?+

The number is not knowable before release, and a page that gives you one has invented it. What is knowable is which activities have been named by Rockstar or seen in the gameplay presentation, which is what this page lists.
