Grand Theft Auto VI - Official Trailer II

Rockstar released Trailer 2 as a surprise drop on the evening of 6 May 2025, days after confirming a (then-current) launch date, with no teaser or countdown beforehand. The official one-line synopsis published with it reads:

*"Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America."*

That framing - a two-hander crime saga where an easy job falls apart - is the confirmed spine of the story, and press universally read it as a Bonnie-and-Clyde dual-protagonist arc, following up on the first trailer. Rockstar also stated the footage was captured on PlayStation 5, mixing cutscenes and gameplay. The fidelity was high enough that some viewers doubted it was real in-engine footage, prompting Rockstar to reiterate the PS5-capture claim publicly - itself a notable moment in the game's marketing.

At the time of the trailer the game was dated 26 May 2026. It has since been delayed to 19 November 2026, so any "launch date" reference within the trailer's original press cycle is out of date.

The Trailer-2 website update introduced eight named characters with official bios. These are confirmed Rockstar copy - the paraphrased roles below come straight from the studio's own site.

• Jason Duval - a protagonist who wants an easy life but keeps sliding into trouble; grew up around criminals, did a stint in the Army, and ended up in the Keys working for local drug runners.
• Lucia Caminos - the other protagonist; scrappy and ambitious, desperate to make her mother proud, and just out of prison as the game opens. She wears an ankle monitor.
• Cal Hampton - Jason's friend, happiest at home drinking beers and listening to Coast Guard comms; loyal but unambitious.
• Brian Heder - an older drug smuggler who lets Jason live rent-free in exchange for dirty work.
• Boobie Ike - a Vice City legend who turned street life into business: real estate, the Jack of Hearts strip club, and a recording studio.
• DreQuan Priest - a music hustler running Only Raw Records, who signed the rap duo Real Dimez.
• Real Dimez - a rap duo (Bae-Luxe and Roxy), friends since high school, with a heavy social-media presence.
• Raul Bautista - a seasoned bank robber always recruiting talent for high-risk jobs; he leads the trailer's bank heist.

Shot-level reads (reported / community). Fans noted a paratrooper tattoo on Jason's forearm, read as evidence of airborne training beyond the confirmed Army stint; Jason's shifting appearance across shots (shorter hair, rougher beard) fuels a non-linear-timeline theory; and Lucia's ankle monitor - visible on screen - is theorized to gate her early-game movement before it comes off. The monitor is confirmed; the gameplay implication is interpretation.

Trailer 2 is the moment Rockstar named the wider State of Leonida beyond Vice City. Six regions were given official names and descriptions. The real-world inspirations are press consensus rather than official statements, but the regions themselves are confirmed.

• Vice City - the "sun and fun capital of America," the neon urban core. Inspired by Miami.
• Leonida Keys - a chain of small islands billed as a tropical paradise; home to Jason's stilt house. Inspired by the Florida Keys.
• Grassrivers - a vast subtropical wetland of swamps, marshes and cypress, and the hub of hunting, fishing and wildlife. Inspired by the Everglades.
• Mount Kalaga - an elevated forested wilderness in the north with lakes, mountain terrain and dangerous wildlife.
• Port Gellhorn - a once-popular vacation spot whose new economy runs on "fortified beer, painkillers, and energy drinks." A faded Gulf-coast port town.
• Ambrosia - a region near a sugar refinery, defined by blue-collar and biker-club culture.

Shot-level reads (reported). Jason's stilt house sits over water with a boat slip and an interior terrarium; the NINE 1 NINE nightclub is modeled on Miami's real E11EVEN; and directional signage to downtown, airport and southside districts is read as evidence of a much larger, denser Vice City than anything in [GTA V]. The trailer is scored to "Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters, originally released in 1986 - a synth-funk cut chosen to match the neon, present-day-but-'80s-nostalgic Vice City aesthetic. That song choice is confirmed by the trailer audio itself.

Cultural effect (reported). Spotify reported that streams of "Hot Together" surged roughly 182,000% after the trailer aired, and outlets framed it as the trailer reviving a near-forgotten track - the classic Rockstar needle-drop effect, echoing Tom Petty's "Love Is A Long Road" on the first trailer.

Other tracks (reported, not confirmed station lineups). Outlets also identified other songs across the wider promo and in-trailer audio, including Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight," Zenglen's "Child Support" (Haitian kompa), and Tammy Wynette's "Talkin' to Myself Again." The Zenglen and Wynette picks fueled speculation about a Haitian-Creole station and GTA's possible first country station since San Andreas. Treat "Hot Together" as the definitive Trailer-2 song; treat the broader tracklist as reported until Rockstar publishes radio-station lineups.

Rockstar officially called Trailer 2 "the biggest video launch of all time," citing 475 million views in the first 24 hours across all platforms - YouTube, X, TikTok, Instagram and others, released simultaneously. That figure and superlative are Rockstar's own claim, and the press repeated them.

The honest asterisks (reported). The number is a cross-platform aggregate, not a single-site record. Early counts placed roughly 106 million on X, somewhere between 75 and 84 million on YouTube, and 200 million-plus spread across TikTok, Instagram and elsewhere. Crucially, on YouTube alone Trailer 2 did not beat Trailer 1: the first trailer was a YouTube exclusive and set the platform's own most-watched-in-24-hours (non-music) record at around 90-93 million, so Trailer 2's YouTube figure fell short there. The "biggest launch" title rests entirely on the all-platform aggregate methodology, which some outlets flagged as fuzzy.

Benchmarks and shelf life (reported). The previous cross-platform record belonged to Marvel's *Deadpool & Wolverine* trailer, cited at around 365 million in 24 hours; GTA VI cleared it comfortably. The mark was, however, later beaten by a Spider-Man trailer reported in the hundreds of millions - so this page states that Trailer 2 held the record as of mid-to-late 2025, not "currently." The bottom line: the 475M number is real as a Rockstar claim, the "biggest ever" tag was true for a while, and the YouTube-only nuance is the part most fan wikis leave out.

Trailer 2 is a cinematic trailer, and almost everything here is press or community reading of footage rather than a Rockstar feature announcement. Rockstar has confirmed only that the footage mixes cutscenes and PS5 gameplay. IGN alone catalogued 89 background details; the consolidated set is below.

Story and set pieces. Jason and Lucia, in skull masks, rob the Sinfrontera National Bank; Rockstar-posted GIFs show Raul Bautista in a shootout beside Lucia during a getaway gone wrong. The bank and Raul's involvement come from Rockstar's own posted media; the detailed mission structure (loud-only approach, four-role crew, exact payouts) is community reconstruction and should be treated as speculation. Fans also read seamless in-mission character switching between the two protagonists, RDR2-style extortion and loan-shark work, and a phone used to hack a security system, hinting at surveillance mechanics.

Living-world simulation. Reads include dense wildlife (alligators - one wandering into a convenience store - plus flamingos, dumpster-raiding raccoons, an iguana under Jason's porch, and a mountain lion at Mount Kalaga); persistent part-by-part vehicle damage with mismatched replacement panels and accumulated grime; explosion physics that respect vehicle mass; and more procedural police behavior with methodical arrests rather than instant lethal escalation. Side activities glimpsed include a gym, organized cage fights, fishing, pool, mini-golf and a metro system. Easter eggs. A mulleted figure appears in a "Phil's Ammu-Nation" TV ad - the returning Phil Cassidy from the 2002 Vice City, notably shown with both arms; in-game banknotes carry presidents pulled from Red Dead Redemption 2; and Jason and Lucia pulling weapons from a car trunk echoes Tommy and Lance Vance. License plates from parody states like "Glorianna" and Liberty City suggest multi-state road-trip scope.

A few Trailer-2 details trace back to the September 2022 Rockstar source leak, and they need careful labeling. Rockstar has never acknowledged that leak, so these overlaps are community observations, not official statements - and this wiki describes them in prose only, without linking or embedding any leaked material.

The most-cited example: "Port Gellhorn" circulated as a place name from the 2022 leak before Rockstar officially confirmed it in the Trailer-2 site copy - a case where a leaked name became canon. The name is now confirmed; its leak provenance is the rumor part. Fans also matched a raccoon dumpster animation in the trailer to animation seen in the leaked 2022 development build. Detailed Sinfrontera heist crew, role and payout breakdowns are fan reconstructions stitched from trailer frames and heist-planner communities, not Rockstar specs.

Separately, voice-actor casting is unconfirmed. Community attributions circulate for Jason, Lucia and others, but Rockstar has published no cast list, and none of these names should be treated as fact. They are community speculation based on resemblance and circumstantial social links - nothing more.
